ASTROBOY
On Christmas night we were treated with the original Astroboy cartoon series. I believe it originaly aired on NBC Saturday mornings in the early sixties. Since I hit the half century mark this year it was a reminder of my childhood ( it was in Black & White!). Can we get more info on this series. I believe it might have been the first Japenese animie to come to the USA. I would love to learn more. Thanks Login to reply to this topicComments:
I'm not sure how it compares, time-wise, to other Japanese stuff in America, but it was an early one, all right. Others in that time frame were Gigantor, Tobor the 8th Man, and Kimba the White Lion.
They're all on my list. In fact, I'll probably do a bunch of them around the same time -- it'll be like eating potato chips. Can't do one without a bunch of others. Quack, Don
I believe that Marine Boy and Amazing Three would also be in that time-frame...

The whole subject of Japanese animation is kind of scary to me. I definitely have to get a lot of it in, because it's had a strong presence in America over quite a number of years. But it's not a specialty of mine, so I'll have to take extra care to be sure I maintain accuracy. As always, it's a toon's impact on America that determines whether or not it eventually gets covered here. A lot of the Japanese stuff has that -- but a lot doesn't, too. I'll try to get a valid assessment done when I finally start writing articles about them. Whenever that may be -- but I'm starting to feel like it'll be fairly soon (whatever that means).
