Finally, FAST WILLIE JACKSON gets the treatment! It's one of my favorite offbeat comics. One other character who got one page fillers was someone you'd never see in Riverdale "HARRY THE WINO." In one issue he's before a judge who shows him a demonstration of the dangers of alcohol. The judge drops a worm in a glass of liquor and the worm dies. When the judge asks him if that teaches him something, Harry says "Yes (HIC) your honor. If I drink I'll never have worms."

Another time they had a contest where one lucky reader would appear in a story. When they did the story, they had a caption remarking how much the winner looked like Fast Willie Jackson, which makes one think they just changed the names on a short Willie story.

Oh yeah! Y'know, now that you mention it, Harry's a pretty non-Archie-like character. Maybe I should go back and add a sentence of two about him.

Fast Willie being here was a response to Cookie, an article I was kind of cajoled into writing. (Not that I mind -- sometimes I don't know how much my site needs an article until after I've written it.)

Anyway, mentioning Willie in that article was the first time I thought of him in what must've been years. That got me thinking -- maybe I need an article on him, too.
