hi, does anyone remember a cartoon from about 1970 in australia called 'eight man'? he was killed by gangsters, found by a scientist, rebuilt as a robot, and needed to regenerate by smoking a cigarette! this is why i think it did not last long! thanks

Not under exactly that name. I do recall Tobor the Eighth Man, but that was earlier and I at least thought he was Japanese. I don't know anything about him (so he could have been Australian after all, for all I know). But sooner or later, I'm going to find out, and write him up.
So if that's the guy you're talking about, he'll be here in the not-too-distant future. (And if not, then no, I never heard of him.)
Quack, Don

Keester's description is exactly what I remember about Tobor-the Eight(h) man. (Now that he and Don mention him.) Only as I recall, it wasn't an Australian production, but rather an early Japanese import. as it was shown in my area with another Japanese import-Gigantor, which Don has posted an entry on.
Checking Wikipedia, I find an article entitled Tobor the Eight man, which confirms my recollection, but it gives the air date in the US as 1965, not the 70's. However, Keester's local station might've shown it during that period, as syndication during that time wasn't as organized as it is now, with the use of satellites, and, etc.

I neglected to mention that Tobor predated 1970. Thanks for pointing it out, Chuck. Sooner or later, like most of 'em, I'll get an article done on him.
